Saying goodbye to a virtual legend

It was with a heavy heart that I updated our website this week to remove The Business Game from use.

Believe it or not The Business Game has been running for almost 18 years and had been completely free to use for the past 12 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Business Game was one of the first serious games to enter the commercial market and was used by hundreds of thousands of students across the globe from Singapore to Suriname. For many years it was used by The Princes Trust as part of the National Enterprise Challenge and even Prince Charles himself has had a play.

The game was inspired by entertainment games such as SimCity and Football Manager; it took the concepts of the entrepreneurial journey and brought them to life for 14-16 year olds using engaging and entertaining mechanics.

It has been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to watch so many young people play the game as part of their education and to watch how the game helped them understand complex concepts.

Whilst I understand technology moves on and it had an amazing shelf life, especially for a digital product, it is a genuine shame to say goodbye to The Business Game, which feels almost like an old friend to me now.

But I look forward to the new products we're making and partners we’re forging. The Business Game did so much for the industry and the people who used it. It won't be forgotten in a hurry.
